Literacy Day 1

Spelling-  Today we will review some of your spelling words from this year!


  1.  Choose 10 of your spelling words found in your student planner.  The words you choose can be  from any week.
  2.  Go to Spelling City .
  3.  Enter your words into the "Spelling Test" section found on the home page.  Follow the  directions and complete the test.
  4.  If possible, print your results and return it to school (control + p).  If you are unable to print your results,  copy your results down on paper and turn it in to your teacher.  You could also copy/paste your results and email them to your teacher.
  5. Try a few of the fun and free games on this website!

Reading-


  1. Go to the Reading Comprehension page on  Mr. Nussbaum's website.  Choose a reading passage to read and complete the online quiz.
Either print the page at the end of the quiz that shows your results (press Control + P) and return the paper to school, or email your teacher your results (include the name of the passage you read).  For example:  I read the History of Potato Chips passage and scored 90% on the quiz.

You may choose any passage from fifth grade or below.  Please find a passage that is a "just right" level of difficulty for you.

Writing- You may do your writing using Google Docs and "share" it with your teachers or use regular paper and pencil and return it on the next school day.  Your writing should be 1-3 paragraphs long (5 sentences in each paragraph).  Use the hamburger model for proper paragraph form!

Choose one of the following prompts to write about:

  1. What is your favorite winter memory?  What is your least favorite winter memory?
  2. What are 3 things you enjoy most about winter?  What are 3 things you dislike about winter?
  3. Describe your dream snow fort!  Be specific and include lots of interesting details.
  4. If you would like to log in to www.typing.com and complete 20 minutes of typing lessons, you may do so INSTEAD of the essay writing assignment.
